A stakes winning son of the mighty Zabeel
from the Champion filly Grand
Archway
|
SEUL AMOUR is a bay horse foaled
in 2000 by ZABEEL from the brilliant filly GRAND
ARCHWAY by ARCHWAY.
Seul Amour retired to stud in 2006 as the winner of six
races from 1400m to 2100m. Starting his race career in NZ as
a 3YO, Seul Amour transferred to Australia with a record of
two wins & two placings from his first seven starts in NZ.
In Sydney he added four wins in town including an impressive
stakes win in the Sky High Stakes at 1900m. He also ran
several very creditable races in top company including a
close second in the Group Three Kingston Town Stakes. His
complete career record reads 22 starts for six wins, four
seconds, 3 fourths. A very popular horse in Sydney, Seul
Amour often started race favourite. His connections had an
enormous opinion of him and his last seven starts were all
in the highest of stakes company against some of Australia’s
best horses. Seul Amour’s versatility is evident by his
range of winning distances and he also won on all track
conditions from slow to fast. He represents a very unique
opportunity to access Zabeel’s bloodlines through a very
well performed son.
Seul Amour is an imposing individual, standing approximately
16.3 hands. He has great balance & presence, & is quite
deceptive for a big horse as he is so athletic. He also has
a great attitude and temperament.
Sireline:
ZABEEL - A $650,000 Karaka yearling Zabeel showed
early promise winning a 1400m 2YO race at Flemington before
training on at 3yrs to win the Debonair Stakes (1400m) & the
(1600m) Australian Guineas - G1. Zabeel retired at
4yrs after 19 starts for 7 wins, 5 placing & $1.1million. |

Zabeel |
ZABEEL– (to Apr ’08) is sire of 1018 runners; 739 winners; 112 stakes winners; 37 individual Group One winners; progeny earnings of $130 million. His career highlights include Champion Australian Stallion twice, Champion NZ sire four times & combined NZ Champion sire eleven times. In 1999 Zabeel became the first sire ever to produce progeny earnings over $10,000,000 in a single season.
Other achievements include siring the Australian Horse of the Year on three occasions (Octagonal, & Might and Power x 2) & winning the prestigious NZ Dewar Trophy Award on four occasions. Zabeel’s dominance of Australia’s feature staying races has culminated in a quinella in the ’98 Melbourne Cup (Jezabeel & Champagne), and the trifecta in the ’99 Caulfield Cup (Sky Heights, Laebeel, & Inaflury). |
|
Over the past two years Zabeel has sired the winners of the Melbourne Cup / VRC Derby (Efficient), AJC Derby (Fiumicino), Yalumba Stakes (Maldivian) and Dubai Sheema Classic (Vengeance Of Rain). Zabeel’s supremacy as a sire has resulted in an unprecedented demand for his progeny. His yearlings have sold to a record NZ$3.6 million paid for a colt who raced as Don Eduardo who became a Gr. One winner when triumphant in the AJC Derby.
ZABEEL is by the Sir Ivor stallion SIR TRISTRAM. His
dam is Lady Giselle, by NUREYEV from Valderna, by VAL DE
LOIR from Derna. |

Sir Tristram

Nureyev |
SIR TRISTRAM rates as
one of Australasia’s most influential sires ever. At the
time of his death in 1997 Sir Tristram had established a
world record for the number of individual Group One winners
he had sired. This extraordinary stallion has created a
dynasty, which continues to flourish through the success of
his sons and daughters at stud. The ability of Sir Tristram
& his progeny to ‘nick’ with other breed giants Star Kingdom
& more recently Danehill will ensure the future success of
the Sir Tristram line. The mantle of Australasia’s heir
apparent to Sir Tristram has appropriately gone to his son
Zabeel.
NUREYEV ranks as one of the world’s greatest active sires. A superbly bred star race horse, Nureyev is a son of the great Northern Dancer. He ranks as a ¾ brother to the great sires Sadler’s Wells, Fairy King, & Tate Gallery. With progeny earnings approaching $79.5 million & sire of 137 stakes winners Nureyev is now making his mark as a brood mare sire, his daughters producing over 134 stakes winners of $106 million. |
|
VAL DE LOIR won the
French Derby & became a good sire in France. Representing
the Blandford sire line he sired 28 stakes winners. A
successful brood mare sire of 608 runners, 392 winners, 72
stakes winners, his major contributions are as dam sire of
Green Dancer & Lady Giselle.
Damline:
GRAND ARCHWAY by ARCHWAY from Mean Eyes by AL AMEEN. |

Archway |
ARCHWAY - a son of the brilliant sprinter THATCHING & a half brother to the Epsom Derby winner DR DEVIOUS, Archway was a high class sprinter himself - winning the Group Three Greenlands Stakes in Ireland, running third in the Group Two Kings Stand at Royal Ascot & fourth in the Group One Prix de l'Abbaye in France before retiring to stud in Australia. Archway, by the same sire as good Victorian speed stallion Rustic Amber was expected to be a speed sire himself, but it was as a sire of quality middle distance and Classic horses that Archway eventually made his mark, producing Oaks winners ROSE ARCHWAY & SHE’S ARCHIE, Derby winner TALES OF TRIOMPHE, Australian Cup / Toorak Hcp winner ROMAN ARCH among his 21 stakes winners (5 Group One winners) & 350 winners of $23.5 million. However it is GRAND ARCHWAY who is the crowning glory of Archway’s stud career, a four time Group One winner & outstanding performer, she added approx $1.75 million to Archways overall progeny earnings. |
|
AL AMEEN - a son of the
top sire Lyphard & the brilliant Hail To Reason mare
Priceless Gem, Al Ameen is a half brother to the great
International Champion mare ALLEZ FRANCE, considered one of
the world’s most outstanding performers in the early to mid
1970’s. Al Ameen is also a half brother to the outstanding
NZ based sire Noble Bijou who produced 597 runners, 421
winners, 66 stakes winners & 10 individual Group One winners
including the outstanding performers THE PHANTOM CHANCE (Cox
Plate), MR LOMONDY (Caulfield Cup), OUR SOPHIA (AJC Oaks),
THE PHANTOM (Mackinnon Stks), ALIBHAI (Rosehill Guineas),
PRINCE MAJESTIC (Tancred Stks), POWLEY (NZ 1000 Guineas)
etc.
GRAND ARCHWAY was an outstanding race filly. From the
time she won four races in succession as a two year old
culminating in a Flemington stakes win over 1427m defeating
Alinghi’s dam Oceanfast, it was obvious that here was a
filly of some talent. As a spring 3YO Grand Archway really
found her forte over the longer distances, winning both the
Wakeful Stakes (2000m) & VRC Oaks (2500m) at the Flemington
carnival. |
|

Grand Archway
|
GRAND ARCHWAY resumed from a
brief break to score a magnificent first up victory in the
1200m MVRC Australia Stakes, a feature Group One sprint
against Australia’s best speed horses. This was followed by
another dominant Group One victory over the older horses in
the 1400m VATC CF Orr Stakes defeating some outstanding
weight-for-age gallopers before heading to Sydney to take
out the Group One AJC Oaks (2400m). GRAND ARCHWAY was
subsequently named 1999 Champion Australian 3YO & Champion
Australian Female. She retired with a career record of nine
wins from 1150m to 2500m including Group One victories from
1200m to 2500m and $1,757,000 earnings. Seul Amour is her
first foal.
Although bred to win Classics, SEUL AMOUR showed a very good
turn of foot – much like his dam he was able to win over
short distances as well. His family should not be
underestimated for its sprinting ability & 2YO performances
as well as Classic staying appeal. Grand Archway was a 2YO
stakes winner & her dam MEAN EYES was placed in the Magic
Millions at 2 years. Mean Eyes dam is a half sister to the
brilliant sprinters Pacific Ruler & Pacific Prince. Mean
Eyes’ grand dam was the outstanding filly EYE LINER whose 14
career wins included 9 victories at 2 years to Group One
level. The next dam back NEW VENN was also an outstanding
stakes winning 2YO. ZABEEL has himself also produced
Octagonal, an unlucky 2nd to Flying Spur in the Golden
Slipper at 2. Zabeel is the sire of the brilliant sprinters
Peruzzi, Mouawad, The Big Bopper, Bezeal Bay & the
outstanding colt Reset as well as a multitude of high class
stayers.
Seul Amour stands at Larneuk Stud, Euroa for a service fee of $5,500 (including GST) payable on the birth of a live foal. This exciting horse is an impressive individual, very much in the mould of his famous sire. He stands 16.3h and possesses great balance & elegance plus a magnificent temperament. |
